Dakhla

Located 550 km south of Laayoune, is a paradise for fishermen and surfers. City DAKHLA is located on a peninsula, 40 km long and 3 to 6 km wide, which closes the bay of Rio de Oro. Small port summarily laid during the colonial period to the mouth of the Rio de Oro, renamed Oued El-Fouch, founded in 1844 under the name of Villa Cisneros, the city now says its dual mission of fishing port and place exchange.



On the edge of the Atlantic, the city of Dakhla is built on the 40 km long peninsula that forms the bay of Rio de Oro. A haven of peace between lagoon and ocean, Dakhla is 400km from the Mauritanian border and the gates of the Western Sahara. Visit Dakhla to discover the most beautiful seascapes of southern Morocco! Thanks also to an equally constant wind, windsurfers and kite surfers have also found a paradise here. The area's wealth also extends underwater. Fishing is the dominant activity, mainly through surf casting. Divers will also discover an unspoilt environment at the other end of the scale to the overcrowded spots visited by too many people. The region is also going to become a national park which will aim to protect endangered species such as monk seals. Calmer boat trips make it possible to discover the lagoon and visit the surrounding islands.

DAKHLA’S BEACHES

There are hundreds of kilometres of deserted beaches both north and south of Dakhla that wait to be discovered! Start by a little open sea excursion to discover dolphins and sea turtles! On the ocean side, check out Foum el Bouir, the surfers’ beach. Very near the city, (about 6 km) this is also a great place to go for walks. Not far from here, head to la Pointe du dragon: a site known by athletes around the world for its water sports centre; Dakhla Attitude. Further south, don’t miss the Puertito beach, a superb expanse of white sand and the beach of Porto Rico, and ideal place to set up a Saharan bivouac.


Activities "Kite Surfing" and "Wind Surf" became for several years now, natural activities in Dakhla, in fact, the spots of skiing here are majestic in a protected environment with a steady wind throughout the year, and constant sunshine.
