El Hoceima

El Hoceima or Al Hoceima (nicknamed Biya) is a Rif town on the north -eastern Morocco ( Mediterranean Sea ), in the Rif. It is located 350km to the east of Tangier and 160km from the Algerian border ( Mediterranean bypass the Rif ). It has about 70,000 inhabitants Formerly called Taghzout Tijdit, then Villa San Jurjo and Villa Alhucemas, the city is not far from the archaeological site of the medieval town of Almazamma ( 2-3 km as the crow flies). It its present name ( Al Hoceima ) since the independence of Morocco and it would come from "Al Khozama " (lavender ), widespread in the central Rif plant. Al Hoceima is mainly known for its history as a rebel against the colonial city espagnol.Abdelkrim El Khattabi (from the tribe Aït Ouriaghel ) power is one of the first president of democratic forms of power in Africa, the Republic of the Rif. The Rif war is a strong symbolic episode in the history of Morocco and Africa. It is the first anti- colonial war of the twentieth century and above all disputes relating to decolonization in Africa and the world . Oriented fishing and tourism, Al Hoceima is one of the largest resorts in Morocco and North Africa. The massive influx during the summer nationals and domestic tourists is favored by the multitude of beaches in the area Quemado (complex), Tala Youssef, Chafarina (complex), Cala Iris, Souani, Sfiha Cala Bonita. Al Hoceima is the first city in Morocco to launch a Mediterranean Village Club in 1963, paving the way to Agadir and Marrakech clubs villages. "Club Med " of Al Hoceima was closed in 2003 for lack of attendance.
